5 star Krav Maga reviewThe people at Krav Maga are the friendliest, most helpful people… I’ve been training at the Broomfield location for about 3 years and it’s been an absolute blast. If you want to learn how to defend yourself and get into shape in a supportive environment, this is the place to go.

HAVE YOU SCHEDULED YOUR FIRST

CLASS YET?

If not, don’t wait! Classes fill up fast…go here NOW! (opens in new tab so you can keep reading here)

BEFORE THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT
  • WE’LL CONTACT YOU.  The truth is, we’re probably more excited to meet you than you know!  We love meeting new action takers and seeing what kind of awesome is joining our community.  Bonus for us, we get to watch you grow and crush your goals along the way!  We’ll be contacting you via phone, text, and email before your appointment just to check in and make sure you’re all set and comfortable.
  • JOIN OUR PRIVATE COMMUNITY GROUP ON FACEBOOK.  You have a fantastic resource at your fingertips in our PRIVATE Facebook group.  Lessons, fun stuff, announcements, videos, all kinds of content by us, your instructors, and mostly by other members of the community!  You can request to join right away here; https://www.facebook.com/groups/COKMmembers
  • GATHER YOUR GEAR. Really, all you need to start in your first class is comfortable workout clothes and exercise shoes, and we recommend a water bottle.  If you bought our one of our intro memberships, then your FREE T-shirt will be waiting for you when you come in!  Even though there’s no real contact in the beginner classes, a mouthpeice is recommended but not required.  For guys, we recommend groin protection as well.
  • GET DIRECTIONS. Use google maps to estimate your drive time to our locations.  You can start here;https://www.coloradokravmaga.com/locations/
THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT
  • REMINDER.  We’ll be reaching out to you to make sure you have the directions and that you’re all set for your appointment that day (we may reach out the night before if it’s an early class you’re scheduled for)
  • DON’T FORGET YOUR CLOTHES AND GEAR.  We get so set in our daily routines sometimes we leave the house for work or our daily to do’s and forget to throw our gym bag in!
  • GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO GET THERE.  We don’t want you to feel rushed so give yourself plenty of time to get to the training center.
  • DON’T FILL UP ON FOOD IMMEDIATELY BEFORE CLASS.  Since there’s physical activity in class, it’s best to not eat 3 helpings at the Chinese food buffet 10 minutes before class.  Let yourself digest.
ON ARRIVAL
  • ARRIVE 10 MINUTES BEFORE CLASS.  If it’s your first class, arrive 10-15 minutes early so you can meet us and get a quick tour of the facility.  You’ll also meet some really cool people that you’re bound to be training with that are also just starting.
  • FILL OUT YOUR PAPERWORK.  You’ll need to complete a waiver form to participate, it’ll just take a few minutes to fill out completely.
  • ASK QUESTIONS.  We get it…it can be intimidating to start a new activity.  We’re 100% here for you and want you to be comfortable so ask as many questions as you want.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN CLASS
  • WHEN YOUR CLASS STARTS the Instructor will call for everyone to line up. We line up in a single line facing the training floor mirrors and do a ‘bow in’ to signify the start of class.  You’re not ‘bowing’ to the instructor at all, but rather to all your fellow students in the mirror as a show of respect and shared purpose.  It’s a small carryover from an old tradition, but we find it important to build our community with mutual and shared respect.
  • HEADS UP, WE PLAY MUSIC.  We often use music as a motivator in class.  So don’t be surprised to hear some tunes during training.  Sometimes, the music might be turned up during a drill to help induce some stress.  This is by design because it’s one simple way to distract and divide your attention and create a little stress so you can practice your defense under those conditions.
  • WARM UP. Each class starts with a warm up of about 10 minutes.  The warm up is designed to get your body ready for active training.  It includes progressive exercise (starting slow then ramping up) and then a little stretching before the first lesson of the class.  DON’T WORRY if you can’t get through the whole warm up!  It’s not a competition by any means, and it’s completely self-paced and self-monitored.  The warm-ups are designed so that if you haven’t worked out in years, you can pace through it.  If you’re in great shape and workout everyday, you can push through it and push yourself. Always stop and rest when needed, you don’t need permission, it’s natural and it’s expected by everyone.  Sometimes, just doing about half the warm up is absolutely fine.  Your body will adapt far faster than you think.  Give it 3 days, we PROMISE!
  • LEARNING AND TRAINING.  In a typical class, you’ll learn some strikes (usually the first lesson in class) and then train on them for a bit with pads.  Then you’ll learn a self-defense technique that utilizes those strikes, and then you’ll train on those for a bit.  Then you’ll put them all together in training and some drills that are designed to build them into your instinctive reaction system quickly.  This is where you’re really owning what you just learned, and it’s what makes Colorado Krav Maga’s training so unique.  We’ll get you up to speed…fast.  The training and drilling part is also building your strength and conditioning along the way!  Bonus!  But remember to STOP AND REST whenever you need to.  Like the warm-up, class is self-paced and self-monitored.
  • DON’T FORGET TO DRINK WATER!  This doesn’t require an explanation we hope.
  • LEARN MORE.  In an average class, you’ll learn a couple of strikes and a couple of self defense techniques.  Our methodology is to give you enough to get working safely, and make tweaks, improvements, adjustments along the way. We use drills to start to inoculate you to some of the stresses of a real attack, and to show you that you can perform the defenses under stress.  You’ll be able to perform the techniques within 1 class.  You’ll perfect them over several classes when that technique comes around again.  It’s an exciting way to learn!
  • FINISH. At the end of class, you’ll line up again and ‘bow out’ to signify the end of class, and to thank your training partners for taking care of each other and helping each other learn and grow.  If it was a great class, you’ll probably feel like hooting and clapping a bit.  People usually do so go for it!
  • AFTER CLASS. After your first class, our staff will check in with you and make sure all went as planned!  This will be your opportunity to jump in and join the most amazing community of diverse yet goal-sharing like-minded people anywhere by becoming a member of Colorado Krav Maga by choosing one of our current membership programs available at the time. Not all programs are always available and they fill out quickly, so make sure you can hang for a few minutes afterwards to get all your questions answered and lock in your membership.
  • COMMIT TO YOUR NEXT CLASS BEFORE YOU LEAVE.  Make sure you don’t waste your progress.  Making a commitment to what class you’re attending next will go a long way to helping you stay on task while you’re getting used to this new amazing you and new amazing lifestyle.  Make the appointment, we’ll remind you.

AFTER ACTION
  • FEED YOUR BODY.  You just did an amazing thing!  You started or complimented your exercise routine, completed an hour long interval style self-defense training, and learned some cool stuff!  Now, go feed your body some recovery fuel.  Protein is usually a good bet and sometimes even some ibuprofen before bed can stave off the muscle stiffness in the morning.  BUT of course, consult your doc or dietitian first.  You’ll also want to HYDRATE.  Drink a lot of water.
  • REVIEW IN YOUR HEAD WHAT YOU LEARNED.  Replay the lessons in your head, not on your spouse, cat, or couch.  Trust us on this, it’s safer for everyone.
  • WE’LL BE FOLLOWING UP WITH YOU.  We’ll check in with you in the next day or two to make sure you’re good to go for your next class and to answer anymore questions you might have.
  • GET FULLY ON-BOARD. Once you become a member, an entire world of education opens up for you. We’ll ask you to be in our private group on Facebook if you’re not already.  We’ll make sure you’re in the know using all of our methods of contact so you’re always up to date on happenings, announcement, member only training and seminars, get togethers, socials, outside training, outside business specials, and more!
  • GEAR UP.  If there’s any more gear you need or want, we’ll get it ordered for you and set you up!
  • GET TO YOUR NEXT CLASS. 3 is the key.  At or around your 3rd class your body and brain will be tuning in and getting used to everything you want it to do.  The learning curve goes EXPONENTIALLY after that.  Strap in, it’s going to be an amazing ride!
  • KEEP THE COMMUNICATION LINES OPEN AND ACTIVE.  Stay in close touch with us.  We want to know how you’re progressing, how you’re feeling, if you’ll be missing classes for a bit because of a vacation or if you’re sick.  And we want to know what’s awesome in your life so hit us up on social media, in the group, and just via phone or email.  This really is a tight knit, open, accepting, welcoming, and cool A$$ community.  If you want to reach out to the bosses directly, just email jamesandshannon@coloradokravmaga.com they’d be excited to hear your story!
